Okay, Stephen Harper...here's the deal. Based on your leadership, as a Canadian, I will now, every time I face a tough situation, simply disappear. As a lawyer, every time I have a tough case, I'll simply not show up in court. As a physician, faced with a medical emergency, I'll simply call in sick--for a few months. As a teacher, with unruly students, I'll take a leave of absence.
Stephen, you are a bad role model for all Canadians. In the face of adversity you backed down and prorogued/suspended Parliament. You "cut and ran" like your friend George W. Bush would say.
Stephen, if I had done done that, I'd be ashamed!

Shameful Queue Jumpers!
Apparently, some Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs players and staff received H1N1 vaccines by jumping the queue ahead of pregnant women and other more at-risk citizens of the Province. Quite correctly, people are asking how these millionaire athletes and executives managed to cut in line. However my questions are as follows:
1. what were the athletes' handlers thinking?
2. what were the administering health-care workers thinking?
3. what were the athletes themselves thinking?
Surely the handlers/agents and health-care workers knew that they were doing something wrong and immoral by vaccinating these millionaires ahead of members of the public more at risk. The athletes can't be blamed as much as they are seldom the sharpest of instruments in the kit.
The athletes' handlers/agents and health-care workers involved (as well as their supervisors) should be fired. I certainly would be fired I had committed a blunder of this magnitude.

H1N1 Vaccine Shortage In Ontario
Today's news reports state that there will likely be a shortage of H1N1 Flu vaccines next week in Ontario. Next week is when adults deemed high-priority and the general population were supposed to be vaccinated. Surely this came as no surprize to the government. We pay the health-care mandarins for this very purpose. Why then, is there a shortage of vaccines? What were the mandarins doing?
People, you have not done your job. You have failed. You know the population of the province. How difficult could it be to order enough vaccines and hire sufficient staff? Its simple math. Its a no-brainer. Did you not learn from the SARS outbreak? As your employer (taxpayer), I'd like to fire you all. I'd surely be fired if I failed so miserably as you did. Let's just hope no one else dies in the interim.

Monsieur Bernier, Why Are We Still Paying You?
Recently, former Conservative foreign affairs minister Maxime Bernier denounced a Montreal newspaper report stating that documents he misplaced last year, at a girlfriend's home, contained crucial national security information. The documents were obtained by the newspaper through a federal access to information request.
Nonetheless, Maxime Bernier earlier resigned from cabinet after it was revealed that he had indeed left classified documents at his girlfriend's house.
Do I really need to ask what would happen to me if I had made the same serious blunder? Likely not. However, I do want to know why, if this idiocy was committed, we are still paying this guy.

Is Stephen Harper An American?
PM Harper recently admitted that he watches mainly American news broadcasts. This is not surprising as Harper is the leader of a political party with values more akin to those of the Bush/Cheney Republicans than Canadian values.
If I was the mayor of Toronto and it came to light that I chose to watch mainly local Vancouver or Montreal news broadcasts, my constituents would can me. Lets can Harper and hope that he leaves Canada and moves to the American south where he belongs.

Was Peter MacKay Negligent?
Canadian Defence Minister Peter MacKay claims he never saw a former diplomat's reports containing allegations of torture of detainees transferred by Canadians to Afghan prisons.
MacKay, who was foreign minister at the time, insisted Thursday that he knew nothing of the documents although he did see many other related Afghan documents.
If I claimed that failed to see reports of that magnitude which came across my desk, the Law Society of Upper Canada would take disciplinary steps against me alleging negligence. Peter Mackay, if you failed to read the said reports you are, in all likelihood, negligent and you should step down.

Hamid Karzai's Fraud
By most accounts, Mr. Karzai and his people commited electoral fraud on a massive scale. Why is he today being lauded by world leaders, including President Obama, for agreeing to a run-off election? If I had engaged in fraud on that scale, I would have been charged and arrested and likely not released on bail. I'd be no hero like Mr. Karzai.
